Dear Aficionados,

Welcome to the latest newsletter for Vintage-SportsCar-Photos.

Among the other items in this newsletter, we wanted to let you know that over 80 new photographs have been added to the website - for a total of 251 photographs on the site.

New additions to the site include drivers Frank Monise, Lance Reventlow, Bill Leyden, Ron Bucknum, Bob Bondurant, Lothar Motschenbacher among others.

Some of the new cars include OSCA, MG-B, Lola T-70, Cooper Norton Mk XI, Dolphin, Gemini BMC, Stanguellini, Triumph, JBS FIII, McLaren-Elva Mk I.

Vintage Motorcylces - There is also a new section of the site for Vintage Motorcylces. A few of the riders featured are Frank Scurria, Ron Ellis, Marty Dickerson, Gerry Willburn, Don Vesco, Tony Murphy, Ralph Le Clercg and Stephen Schmauss riding Ducatti, Norton Manx, among others.

I hope you all have had a successful 2008 and that 2009 will be all that you would like it to be despite the difficult times.

The Passing of Legends

It was a sad time for racing last year with the passing of Phil Hill and Paul Newman. Both were true gentlemen and credits to racing, living up to being role models for anyone to follow.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hill and his wife Alma many times as we belonged to the Fabulous Fifties Group, a bunch of 50's racers and hanger-oners, who meet in the Los Angeles area.

I remember one very special time, a few years ago; I got to spend some "quality time" with Mr. Hill at the Coronado Vintage Races put on by Steve Earle.

It was on the Friday of race weekend about 5 PM when almost everyone was gone. I saw Phil and Alma looking at some of the 1930 cars on display. I summoned the courage to go up to them and talk about some of the great cars that he restored. I had previously given them a few pictures of Phil I had taken in the pits at Laguna Seca in 1963 so it was a little easier to speak to such a legend. He made you feel that you were just talking to any other gearhead, but with legendary stories to tell.

He will be missed.

Event Honoring Steve Earle

My thanks to Steve Johnson for letting me use the following photographs he took at an event honoring Steve Earle for his monumental Monterey Historic Races.

I put together a poster of some of my current shots of Steve Earle at the Coronado Vintage Races - and of the signature photography from the 2004 Ferrari and 2005 Jim Hall tributes. Many who attended the event, including Carroll Shelby and Alma Hill and her son Derek, Bruce Kessler and Dick Guldstrand all signed the poster. I donated a copy of the Jim Hall tribute photograph to the event, and it was auctioned off for $400.

Events in California

Here are some of the up-coming events where I'll be showing my vintage photographs:

The Porsche Literature Show on March 7 at Los Angeles Airport Hilton.

"Legends of Riverside" Film Festival March 27-29 at the Riverside International Automotive Museum, Riverside California.

This year we will be attending the Monterey Historics weekend in August and will show the photographs at Automobilia Monterey on August 11 & 12.
