Dear Fellow Aficionados,
Once again it is time to take pen in hand and jot down a few soon to be forgotten notes.
Painting of Paramount Ranch Based on Allen R. Kuhn Photography
One that I hope you do not forget is a project I have been associated with for the past few months. A friend of mine, Brian Rooney, is behind a marvelous painting of one of the most iconic courses in American sports car history. Although it lasted only two seasons, those of us who were fortunate enough to be there still remember all the nuances of this very tricky circuit.
Artist Therese Conte has captured the flavor of those by-gone days in an original painting. I was happy to open my archives of Paramount Ranch images for this project. Full details for this 24" x 36" poster, which costs only $25, can be found on ebay.
If you look closely on the right hand side just above the track, you'll see my red MG-TD with a sign on the back and your 19 year old photographer shooting pictures beside the car. The sign reads 'Kuhn Photography'. I feel very honored to be a physical part of the landscape.
2010 Travels - Augie Pabst in Wisconsin with Original Reventlow Scarab
We had a 4 1/2 month trip last summer covering ten-thousand miles, twenty-three states and one Canadian Province. In addition to all the marvelous sights we saw there were some wonderful car-related ventures, the highlight being an afternoon with Augie Pabst at his farm in Wisconsin.
He took us to lunch across Lake Oconomowoc in his pontoon boat. Afterwards he gave us a tour of his garage, which was spectacular with the historic and beautifully restored vintage machines. Not the least of them was his original Reventlow Scarab.
I then showed him some of my large format vintage photographs taken at some of the races he participated in the day. His son, Augie III, had purchased a number of my prints of his Dad when we met him at Road America in Elkhart Lake.
Kohler Challenger Vintage Races, Elkhart Lake, WI &
Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum, PA
A couple of other major events were: The Kohler Challenger Vintage Races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, where we set up a booth at Bob Sirna's Scarab pit and a stop at The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, PA.
We were fortunate enough to be there on a Saturday when Dr Simeone was giving a demonstration drive and talk on two of his historic Bugatti. We were also asked if we would show some of our collection of photographs we had brought on the trip. Never go anywhere without some of the collection.
If you are anywhere near the Philadelphia area this is a must see venue. Much like the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles, CA, showing the cars in appropriate settings.
Allen R. Kuhn and Vintage-Sportscar-Photos.com will be at the following events:
Now for the commercial. Well, for you in the Los Angeles area anyway. We will be trucking the photographs to the following events:
Porsche Lit Meet on Saturday March, 5th at the L.A. Airport Hilton.
